SMSC and PHSE
Here at Mossley, we recognise that the personal development of our students plays a significant part in their ability to learn and achieve their full potential. Therefore, the spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) enrichment of our students is at the heart of our school’s ethos.
We follow a set of themes and values that we have tailored to meet the needs of our children. These include; respect, responsibility, co-operation, thoughtfulness, peace, friendship, love, honesty, hope, tolerance, unity, patience, trust, care, empathy, courage, appreciation and happiness. We believe that these values will help nurture and prepare our children for life in modern Britain, today.
We are also a school that uses JIGSAW here at Mossley and embed the programme into our PHSE curriculum. We believe that the values and subjects focused upon in the jigsaw programme provide our children with fundamental skills to allow them to flourish as democratic, respectful and tolerant individuals as they move up through our school and out into the wider world. Jigsaw is a spiral and progressive scheme of work that aims to prepare children for life. It helps them to know and value who they are. It helps them to relate to other people in our changing world. The programme incorporates assemblies and music. Each year group has a different coloured piece of the jigsaw.
