Forest School
🌿 “The best classroom and the richest cupboard are roofed only by the sky.”
Margaret McMillan
We are incredibly fortunate to have a beautiful woodland area within the grounds of Mossley CE Primary School. From September 2026, our Year 3 children will have the opportunity to take part in our Forest School programme, attending sessions in small groups and working in blocks throughout the year.
Forest School provides children with the opportunity to learn, explore and play in the natural environment. Through a combination of child-led exploration, practical activities and carefully planned experiences, children will develop a wide range of skills including teamwork, communication, problem-solving, creativity and independence.
Our sessions will also provide opportunities to make meaningful connections with learning in the classroom, helping children to see how their knowledge and skills can be applied in the world around them.
At Mossley, we believe that children deserve the opportunity to experience nature, develop a sense of wonder and learn through first-hand experiences. Forest School allows children to encounter appropriate levels of challenge and risk in a safe and supportive environment. By learning to assess and manage risks for themselves, children can develop resilience, confidence, self-reliance and a greater belief in their own abilities.
Our Forest School sessions are led by Miss Munro, our Forest School Leader, supported by Mrs Fox. Together, we aim to create a welcoming environment where children feel safe to explore, make choices, try new things and learn from both their successes and their mistakes.
We hope that our Forest School programme will help children to develop not only a deeper connection with the natural world, but also the confidence, resilience and lifelong learning skills they can carry with them beyond the woodland.
